I was going to suggest Tcalc2004 but it gives the texture name for custom textures for photo scenery overlays. It does provide the BGL ID for the terrain cell so maybe that is helpful?

Didn't know about Tcalc2004 either, and already tried it.
Both this and LWMViewer are great programs! I'll still have to dig more with both. I can see references to the current BGL (using the aircraft follow features) and they mention a BMP file - but I believe is a temporary one...? it is one of those long-named files - but not the actual name of the textures in use.
But I'm sure it must be there somewhere
One of the areas is shown in the screenshot above. You can see the winter textures near the shoreline with another (unidentified) texture underneath. Perhaps that's the same texture but in another season variant... as I mostly did the HW and the WI textures.

That is odd and something I never noticed but rarely have I flown to iceland in the sim.
